Last updated 16 September 2026. FortSource does not operate user accounts. Do not send Social Security numbers, DD-214s, or medical records.
What stays on your device
Your service profile, checklist marks, ZIP search, and a small daily-refresh stamp are stored in this browser with localStorage. That data is not uploaded to FortSource as a login or a claim file. Clearing site data in your browser deletes it. Other people who use this same browser can see it.
What leaves your browser
- ZIP lookup. If you search posts by ZIP, this browser asks zippopotam.us for that ZIP’s coordinates. That operator sees the ZIP you typed.
- Community directories. Post and county-VSO lists are fetched from public GitHub files (AVSOPS open data).
- VA rate table. The site may re-fetch
data/rates.jsonfrom this same website so the published compensation table stays current. - Apply links. When you open an official tool, you are on that agency’s or company’s site. They see what you do there under their rules.
- Donations. Stripe processes gifts. We do not put Stripe secret keys on this site. Stripe’s privacy policy covers the payment page.
- Sponsor listings. If you click a paid sponsor card, you leave FortSource for that company’s site. They see the visit under their rules. Sponsor logos we host are files we chose to publish.
- Partner / affiliate links. If a commercial perk row has a partner button and you click it, that network (for example Impact, Commission Junction, Amazon Associates) may set its own cookie and see that the click came from FortSource. We do not put those cookies on VA or state apply tools.
- Email. If you write Contact, that message goes to ordinary email. Do not send claim files or identification numbers.
What we do not do
We do not sell your checklist. We do not run a hidden account system. This static site does not set a FortSource advertising cookie. Your browser and the third-party sites above may still keep their own logs.
Children
This resource is for adults researching veteran, survivor, and family benefits. It is not directed at children under 13.
